PRESS
RELEASE
LAKE
PLACID - The Josh Cramoy Band will be performing at the Lake Placid Center for
the Arts on Saturday, June 21st at 7:30 PM in a Benefit Concert for the Shipman
Memorial Youth Center. The concert,
though aimed at the youth of Lake Placid and surrounding towns, will be an
all-family event featuring acoustic rock music that appeals across all ages.
The
Josh Cramoy Band is headed by Lake Placid resident, Josh Cramoy, a
singer/songwriter and guitarist. Josh
is accompanied by his brother Jeremiah as bass guitarist and back-up
singer. Though the group has included a
drummer and saxophonist in the recording of their latest CD, they will be
playing as a duo in their Lake Placid concert debut. The duo performs original songs, as well as acoustic and alternative
rock by other popular artists.
Josh
and Jeremiah wanted to do a benefit concert as a way of giving back something
to their community. All funds raised
will go to support the programs offered to area teens by the Thomas Shipman,
Sr. Memorial Youth Center.
The
Shipman Youth Center, located on Cummins Road in Lake Placid, was originally
conceived by Thomas Shipman, Sr., a Lake Placid Village Police officer, as a
place, exclusively for young people, which would emphasize positive growth in a
safe, supervised environment. Following
Officer Shipman's untimely death in 1995 due to complications of surgery, the
work of making the Youth Center a reality was spearheaded by Tina Leonard who
serves as the president of the Center's Board of Directors. The Center, which was constructed over a
3-year period by community volunteers who donated both materials and labor,
opened in the spring of 1999.
The
Josh Cramoy Band plays frequently at restaurants and lounges in the Lake Placid
region, including The Wobbly Moose in Au Sable Forks, The Dancing Bears Lounge
at the Lake Placid Hilton and The Holiday Lodge in Wilmington. This past winter, they appeared the World
Cup Bobsled Competition and at the United States Alpine Skiing Championships in
Lake Placid. They recently won the City
of Plattsburgh's 2003 Battle of the Bands which benefited the AIDS Council of
Northeastern New York and have been invited to perform on July 12th at the
annual Mayor's Cup Festival and Regatta in Plattsburgh. This summer, the band will be expanding
their performance area to include the Plattsburgh and the Lake George regions.
The
Cramoys are currently putting the finishing touches on a new CD, Saving Grace,
which will include many new songs, as well as some new arrangements of songs
from their original album, Finding Your Way Back. The new CD is scheduled for release by June 20th and should be
available for purchase at the concert.
A portion of proceeds from CD's purchased at the concert will be donated
to the Shipman Youth Center.
The
concert will run from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
Refreshments will be available for purchase and there will be a raffle
for prizes. The cost of tickets for the
concert will be $5 for adults and youth, and $3 for kids under 12. For advance ticket sales call (518)
523-4332. Tickets may also be purchased
at the door on the evening of the concert.
